Hiab World Crane Championship 2016

Hiab World Crane Championship 2016

Hiab presents for the second time the World Crane Championship, the ultimate test of precision, accuracy and nerves of steel. The competition is being held in recognition of the highly skilled crane operators from around the world who perform demanding jobs
daily.

Timekeeping begins with the crane properly parked. With a load suspended from the hook, you must proceed past a number of drums, pass under a height limit and lower the load into a barrel. Next you topple a number of drums around the course with the load, while other drums may absolutely not be touched at all. The clock stops when the crane is once again parked, and the indicator lamp lights up, showing that it is properly parked.

Whoever is crowned World Crane Champion will walk away with a €5,000 travel
cheque and €20,000 towards the purchase of a new Hiab crane.

Qualifying rounds begin during 2016, qualifying competitions will be held in countries around the world. Stay tuned on this site to get information on when and where the next qualification round is.

The winner from each country immediately qualifies to enter the final at the IAA Commercial Vehicles Show in Hanover 22nd – 29th of September 2016.

Allmi Smart Phone App

Allmi Smart Phone App

Further to an extensive planning exercise in the first half of this year, development work has recently commenced on the ALLMI smartphone App. Initially being designed for iPhone and Android operating systems, the App will contain a range of features for all industry stakeholders.

ALLMI CEO, Tom Wakefield, comments “The App will include an array of information, from details of various ALLMI courses through to guidance documents and safety videos, as well as member and training provider search functions, and the latest industry news. In addition, it will contain an Operator Course Booking Facility, which will be a great tool for accredited instructors.”

ALLMI Technical Director, Alan Johnson, adds “The App will also feature a range of calculator tools, which will assist users in carrying out various industry roles. These include tools for calculating the vertical loads placed on stabilizer legs and also the pad sizes required for a particular lifting operation. In addition, there will be a tool for assisting with sling selection when handling cabins or containers, as well as one for determining the sail effect of wind on any given load. Tools will also be available which will help users to determine whether a lift falls into the hired and managed or contract lift category, and whether a site visit is required in advance of the operation.”

Moffett World Championship 2015

Cheshire Training Solutions were delighted to be asked by Cargotec to judge the Moffett World Championship 2015 in Dundalk Ireland.

There were 14 finalists in total who had to negotiate a challenging course that was designed to test their ability to mount and dismount the MOFFETT, perform daily safety checks, negotiate obstacles, and pick up and place various loads in designated areas, all against the clock. They were also trying to beat the time set by the Mystery MOFFETT Operator, MOFFETT’s very own local professional driver.

Congratulations to Jan de Vaan who took the title driving a MOFFETT E4, with a winning time of 5 minutes 51 seconds in a spectacular display of skill, speed and precision over the gruelling test course. Wayne Bordoy was the runner-up, with a time of 5 min 59 seconds, and Olan Murphy from took third place, with a time of 6 minutes 18 seconds.

Once again a big thank you to Cargotec and everyone else that was involved in organising the event, we were made to feel very welcome and had a fantastic time judging.

As part of its 70th anniversary celebrations, MOFFETT, part of Cargotec’s Hiab business area, will host the inaugural MOFFETT World Championship.
The competition is the first such contest ever to be held in the world of truck-mounted forklift truck driving, and is open to all owners and operators of MOFFETT truck-mounted forklift trucks.
“As the market-leader in truck-mounted forklifts, this competition is the ideal way to challenge MOFFETT truck operators, who are our ambassadors worldwide, to hone and demonstrate the skill with which they use MOFFETT equipment in their everyday working lives, delivering goods to their customers,” says Keith Quigley, Senior Vice President, Truck- Mounted Forklifts, Hiab.
The challenge
Competitors will complete a grueling course, under time-trial conditions, that will test their ability to mount and dismount the MOFFETT, perform daily safety checks, negotiate obstacles, and pick and place various loads in designated areas, all in a confined space, safely, and with efficiency and precision.
Penalty points will be added for faults such as safety infringements, misuse of the equipment, and a lack of awareness of the surroundings, and the competitor with the best time on the day will be declared the winner.
The trial will be judged according to strict criteria laid down by the MOFFETT Training Academy, who will also set the course and the scoring mechanism. An independent expert, accredited by the Road Transport Industry Training Board (RTITB), and who wrote the LTG10 standard, the certification required to operate truck-mounted forklift trucks, will adjudicate in the Grand Final.
Only the best can win
The final to be held in Dundalk, Ireland on 23-25 October 2015, The winner and runners-up will each win a specially made trophy, and decals to put on their MOFFETT back home, declaring them Operators of the Year 2015. Plus, they will also win the chance to nominate a favourite local charity to receive a share of the money raised in the MOFFETT 70th anniversary charity auction.
And if anyone needs to see what a real expert is capable of, MOFFETT will have their very own professional, the Mystery MOFFETT Operator, on hand to demonstrate what the perfect round looks like. (In case you were wondering, it’s 5 minutes and 30 seconds, with zero penalties.) “Have you got the skills and nerve to challenge the Mystery MOFFETT Operator and be crowned Operator of the Year 2015?” he asks.
“This competition is not for the faint hearted,” says Quigley. “We invite our MOFFETT ambassadors to step up to the challenge, and show everyone just how good they are. But only the best will have the chance to challenge the Mystery MOFFETT Operator on his home turf.”

UKCG recognition for NPORS

nporslogoNPORS is pleased to announce that it has been formally recognised by UKCG as an Accepted Record
Scheme and will now be added to UKCG’s list of accepted record schemes.
The UKCG is the primary association for major contractors operating in the UK and its members account for a third of UK construction total output.
Huw Jones NPORS Technical, Training & Standards Director said: “We’re extremely pleased with the UKCG’s decision to recognise the NPORS card, which we believe reflects the quality of NPORS training and its credibility within the industry. The uptake of the NPORS card has increased significantly over recent years and the fact that our training will reach even further into the construction sector is excellent
news for everyone connected to NPORS, as we all share the same goal of seeing standards continually
raised in relation to the safe, competent use of plant machinery.”
Julie Senior NPORS Managing Director said: “This is a very significant development and is one which we
are extremely proud of”.
This development is in addition to the launch of the redesigned NPORS Operator “smart card” which went
live earlier this year. The new card has a QR code displayed on the front which when scanned with a QR
reader will open up a web page that displays the following operator details; photograph, name, registration
number, card expiry date, categories and qualifications held on the NPORS data base. Mrs Senior also
said “this is a tremendous step forward for the NPORS card as it will enable site managers and supervisors
to check in a matter of seconds the validity of an operator card by using a smartphone or tablet. We feel
this will make the validating of operator cards an easier and more convenient process”
